How to stay up-to-date on pharmacy benefits and other benefits coverage for Medicare

A Pharmacy Benefit Manager is responsible for reviewing your Medicare prescription and determining if you qualify for certain benefits.

They will send you an e-mail alert if you have any questions about your benefits coverage or you have to make a change to your Medicare card.

Pharmacy Benefits Manager, Debra Stokes, says she receives thousands of e-mails a day from the Medicare program’s beneficiaries and can’t keep track of all the requests she receives.

For example, the most recent e-newsletter from the Pharmacy Board of Canada, which was sent to the Pharmacists of Canada in September 2018, contains several inquiries from patients.

Pharmacists are often confused about what Medicare cards they are authorized to use, what their coverage is and how much they have to pay.

If you have questions about how to apply for Medicare benefits, you can call your pharmacy and ask them to review your card, Stokes says.

Here are the steps to follow: Know what your eligibility is, how much you have and what the benefits are.
