The pharmacy space is booming in 2018, with Amazon opening up the first Amazon Pharmacy in Austin, Texas in January.
Amazon Pharmacies, which are also available in the Bay Area, have exploded in popularity in recent years as more people start shopping online for their health and personal care needs.
Amazon is also looking to open its first retail pharmacy in Austin in 2018.
The store is called the Amazon Pharmary and will be located at the intersection of US-35 and Austin’s Beltline.
The Amazon Pharmaries website has already launched and you can sign up for free to be part of the first batch of 1,500 Amazon Pharmacists to be hired in the US.
In 2018, the average retail pharmacy has grown to just over 4,000 stores, according to an article from Consumer Reports.
Amazon’s pharmacy expansion is also driving growth in the country’s retail sector.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the total number of people who visited the nation’s primary care clinics more than doubled in 2017, while the number of patients seen in the hospital doubled, from 5,926 in 2016 to 7,846 in 2017.
“There are a lot of retail chains opening in the health industry, and it’s important to remember that a lot are still trying to figure out how to compete against the big four retailers, and Amazon is doing a great job of creating an opportunity,” said David McDonough, president of Health and Wellness for Amazon Health Care, in a press release.
“We are excited to see how this program will help our health care partners expand and compete with the likes of Walgreens and Rite Aid.”
Amazon is looking to expand its online pharmacy presence in the states, as well.
For example, Amazon is planning to open a third Amazon Pharmory in Florida, and the company is also planning to launch a fourth in the state.
As Amazon Pharmas become a staple in the healthcare marketplaces, the company will also likely look to expand into other industries, such as apparel, footwear, and home goods.
We are not expecting a big move in pharmacy openings in the next few years, however, as Amazon has focused on expanding into consumer goods, including shoes and apparel.
Amazon has a huge market share in the retail pharmacy space, with more than half of all US retail pharmacies operating in the industry, according the Centers, and sales are projected to grow at nearly 6% per year for the next five years.
With more and more people starting their shopping online, it is not surprising that the pharmacy space has become more popular, and with Amazon Pharmades already opening in Austin and New York, it looks like the company wants to stay in the pharmacy business long-term.
