A man was forced to abandon his dead dog at a hospital in Chennai after the owner said she would be happy to have him back.
The man, who did not want to be identified, had been on his way home from a day’s work when he was confronted by his wife and the owner of a nearby veterinary clinic.
The woman, who has a cat, suggested he bring his dog home for her to adopt.
“I was like, ‘Can I adopt this dog?’
She said, ‘I can give you this dog for free.
We have to take care of it.
It’s not worth taking a dog home,'” the man said.”
The woman then asked me if I wanted to adopt the dog.
I said, yes,” he said.
The woman, however, was adamant that she would not be happy with the decision.
“I don’t want a dog, you have a cat.
Can you just leave it there?” she asked, adding that the owner was in no mood to adopt a dog that would be in need of a new owner.
The owner, however agreed to bring the dog to the veterinary clinic in the morning and bring him to the hospital later in the day.
“She asked me to come with her.
I came with her,” he told The Hindu.
While the dog had not been properly vaccinated against rabies, it was able to be tested and was deemed healthy enough for the new owner to take the dog home.
The couple had previously been in a fight over who would adopt the cat, and the woman refused to accept the offer.
When the woman arrived at the hospital, the dog was gone.
The next day, the owner brought the dog back to the clinic and asked for the vet’s certificate.
The certificate was not forthcoming, so the couple turned to a third party.
The dog was put up for adoption and was brought back to a veterinarian in Chennai.
The owner was satisfied with the result, he said, adding the vet did a thorough examination.
The cat is a stray and had been adopted by the couple.
“We were shocked.
The vet was quite upset and asked us to come to the veterinarian and take the cat to the vet,” the man explained.
The cat was not returned to the couple because the owner had no interest in it.
The couple has a pet cat, a golden retriever named Jax.
